About me

About me

I am originally from Finland, and I grew up hearing and speaking multiple languages, always surrounded by different cultures.

Before becoming a counsellor, I studied Intercultural Communication and Psychology, which shaped my belief that our stories are influenced by many layers — culture, identity, language, upbringing, and the systems we live in.

I later completed a Master of Counselling, and I now work from a person-centred and trauma-informed approach, supporting clients to feel safe, seen, and respected.

Working Across Cultures

Working Across Cultures

I have a particular interest in working with clients from multicultural backgrounds, especially those who:

  • Have grown up speaking multiple languages

  • Have lived between cultures or moved between countries

  • Are navigating cultural identity and a sense of belonging

I understand — both personally and professionally — how these experiences can shape our sense of self, relationships, and self-esteem. These complexities are often overlooked, but they matter deeply. They can impact how we show up in the world, how connected we feel, and how we make meaning of our lives.

I also support intercultural couples navigating value differences, communication challenges, or cultural misunderstandings. Counselling can offer a neutral, safe space to explore these tensions and build mutual understanding.

Rumi

You may also notice my Border Collie, Rumi, in some of the photos here. Border Collies are known for their intelligence and intuitive nature, and Rumi often brings a calm, grounding presence to the therapy space. Research shows that animals can support wellbeing by reducing stress, fostering connection, and offering comfort. For this reason, she sometimes joins me in face-to-face sessions as a therapy dog.
